The Nests is a grassroots, DIY queer-led art space in the centre of Leeds prioritising creativity and community. It’s been just over half a year since this project first hatched and we started welcoming studio holders to the roost.

Now the time has come to get together, open our doors and showcase our work.

We are murmuring.

The energy from each studio is starting to emanate through the cracks of the wooden walls and blend into the common areas as we are getting to know one another. While we get to creatively cocoon in our nests, we are also building the ecosystem where co-creation, inspiration and community can flourish.

‘Murmuration’ is a vital part of this process. Even though it’s still quite warm outside, the cold is slowly creeping in. What better way to shift in sync than to gear up and get ready to fly together in this upcoming exhibi- tion. Painting, drawing, installation, tattoo art, and photography are some of the disciplines that you’ll find within the walls of The Nests. In the following pages you’ll get to know about the artists that are displaying their work.

As part of this event Polite Rebellion is sharing a preview of Iconic Fatigue, and as part of The Nests ongoing commitment to accessibility Polite Rebellion have designed and built us a bespoke rest space. This safe haven aims to allow people with energy limiting conditions to feel confident in working at our studio without the fear of running on empty without anywhere to be.
